Virus/Requests

Right To Be Fierce
So as you may have read on my site already, Kiwi-musume.com had its first virus! Gee thanks, just what I always wanted. I deleted the entire contents of my server and re-uploaded all my site stuff, and it doesn't seem to have come back. However, a virus scan of my computer picked up a tracking cookie which has been showing up fairly regularly for a couple of months. I've been getting it for longer than I was getting the messages about the virus, so it may not have anything to do with this site, but in light of recent events I want to make sure. So I'm checking that out at the moment (or, to be precise, talking nicely to a friend who's better with computers than me.)

Some antivirus programs seem to block the virus I had, but I had an email from a reader who said that the virus infected his computer, so if you visited this site in the past few weeks, I advise that you do a full virus scan of your computer (if you haven't done one since - my antivirus software does one automatically every week.) As for the tracking cookie, my virus software classes it as low-risk, and like I say I don't know whether it's even coming from my site, but for those who are worried about getting it, I will post in this blog once I've confirmed that my site is safe.

I haven't re-uploaded any of the music below since the big delete, but if you'd like me to re-upload something, feel free to comment to this post or the one containing the song you want.

The other thing is, getting this virus made me have a good think about how my site has been going lately. You've probably noticed that my updates have been patchy at best for the past year or so. A lot has changed since I moved here, and it's just not viable to do things the way I used to. Therefore, I will no longer be taking requests. I will try to post translations for some recent stuff fairly regularly, but I am no longer able to keep to a request schedule.

I would like to apologise to all those who have requested translations from me, especially those who have been waiting for a while. Megchan has kindly offered to take the requests of anyone who'd like her to translate their songs. She's a professional translator, so you'll be in good hands. I will also try to be more active in this blog. I am currently compiling a list of all the albums and other individual tracks that I own, and I will post it here soon. Feel free to request anything you want from that. Sorry again for any inconvenience I may have caused.

Sorry to hear that!
You said you're not sure, but if it is/was coming from your site, does that mean visitors may have also attracted the virus?
Just to check my own system (since I visit your site numerous times a week) what is the filename of the cookie?

I hope all goes well and Kiwi Musume is back and running like the old days soon! がんばって!

My friend has just scanned the backup file and found no cookie, so I'd say that was actually coming from somewhere else. I just wanted to make sure, after the virus thing.

As for the virus (which is called Downloader), the honest answer is, maybe. Some virus programs block it, but one person said his computer was infected. If you were on my site between early/mid March and April 9 Japan time (April 8 American time) then I recommend checking your system.

Sorry about that!

Hi, I know my comment comes close to almost a month from when you originally posted this but I thought I would still comment since I would frequently come to your site. I use to request songs often from you and kindly you always translated for me (^_^) It makes me a little sad that your not taking requests anymore but also happy at the same time. When I think of all the requests you would take and do weekly, I always found it amazing O_O You take your personal time to translate and that must take some time. I imagine it takes more than it's fair share. So basically "Thanks so much" \(^_^)/ *hugs* for all the translations you have done in the past for the japanese impaired (as I call it which would be me (._.) I love the culture, & music been an collector of Jpop cds for more than 10 years. I collect mangas & anime & even watch some Jdramas -subtitled of course (._.) Yet I don't know any japanese >_< ahhh maybe one day I could study it & learn. So for me your site was #1 because I love knowing what the songs about when I'm listening to them. Anyhow back on subject I appreciate all the time you have given for the translations and I'm happy that you will be doing other things for yourself. I will follow your blog as I think your a really cool person <3 (not sure if anyone uses cool anymore (._.) !! Sorry bout the virus you got T_T I get tracking cookies sometimes always low risk :( Not sure where they come from but I remove them daily with my anti virus I doubt I got anything from your site. But anyways since I'm almost a month behind reading your blogs >_< not sure if you'll get my comments or not, but I'll still post. I'm going to try to read the rest of them and catch up. Hopefully I can keep up to where I'm not so late =P

Yeah, the cookie turned out to be unrelated, so no worries there. :D
